Mayor Domenic J. Sarno will once again attend the Lighting of the Menorah in Court Square in downtown Springfield. The Springfield Jewish Community invites the public to the ceremony today in Court Square at 3:30 p.m., which also includes latkes, donuts, hot chocolate and dreidels.
Hanukkah and the tradition of lighting a candle of the menorah each day during what is also called the Festival of Lights celebrates an ancient Jewish victory over the Seleucid Empire.
