For adults and teens. Two tours in one! Holyoke’s canals were the key to this planned industrial city. Paper and textile mills set up shop as soon as sections were completed to reap the waterpower the canals provided. Learn how the waterways were constructed, how they work, and tour parts of first and second level canals. End up at the Robert E. Barrett Fishway. There you will receive a guided tour of HG&E’s powerhouse and the fishway where you can see the fishlift in operation and observe fish that have been transported over the dam.

Limit 15 people. Registration Required. Call (413-534-1723) or e-mail (nancy.condon@mass.gov) to register.

Program is free. Meet at the Holyoke Heritage State Park Visitor Center. Dress for the weather. Severe weather cancels.
