Hanukkah Celebration in Springfield

The lighting of the largest menorah in Western Massachusetts marking the start of the eight days of Hanukkah takes place Sunday, Dec. 22, at the Springfield Jewish Community Center on 1160 Dickinson St. at 5:30 p.m.
There will be family activities before and a concert that is free and open to the public at 6 p.m.
Hanukkah and the tradition of lighting a candle of the menorah each day during what is also called the Festival of Lights celebrates an ancient Jewish victory over the Seleucid Empire.
